Breast Implant Removal

Breast Implant Removal in Houston, TX

Breast augmentation is a popular enhancement procedure that leaves many women very satisfied with their larger breasts. However, some women may wish to remove their implants down the line because they no longer fit their desired self-image, or they experienced complications with their implants that need repairing.

Breast implant removal permanently removes or replaces damaged or unwanted breast implants.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implant Removal?

You are a good candidate for breast implant removal if:

  • You are in good overall health
  • You do not smoke
  • You are experiencing complications with your implants
  • You are unhappy with the appearance of your implants
  • Your implants are impeding your lifestyle

How Is Breast Implant Removal Performed?

Breast implant removal is usually performed under general anesthesia; however, intravenous anesthesia with sedation may be offered as an alternative option.

An incision is made along the inframammary fold beneath the breast or around the areola. If possible, your breast augmentation incision will be reused for your breast implant removal.

Through this incision, the implant and the surrounding scar tissue is removed, and the incisions are carefully closed.

Some women choose to replace their implants with new ones during this procedure. These new implants can be identical to the ones removed or can be a different size, shape, or filling material.

Alternatively, some women choose to combine their breast implant removal with breast lift surgery to address sagging tissues. This combination restores youthful-looking breasts.

What Is Recovery After Breast Implant Removal Like?

Your breasts will be bandaged, and you may be provided with a surgical bra to support the breasts while they heal. Drains may also be needed to ensure proper healing.

Bruising, swelling, and tenderness will gradually subside over the following weeks, and your surgeon will provide specific instructions about how to care for your incision sites and healing breasts.

Most breast implant removal patients can return to work and normal day-to-day activities within one to two weeks.

When Will I See My Results After Breast Implant Removal?

The results of your breast implant removal will be visible immediately following the procedure. These will continue to improve as the bruising and swelling subside.

The results of your breast implant removal will be long lasting, but, as this procedure will not stop the aging process, you may develop some breast sagging over time. You can help prolong your results by maintaining a stable weight and wearing a supportive bra.
