What Can Facial Fat Grafting Achieve?

Men and women who are beginning to lose fullness in their face may desire facial fat grafting to remove fat deposits from one area of their body, such as the abdomen, back, or thighs, and transfer it to their face to replenish volume. Facial fat transfer can:

  • Plump the lips
  • Restore volume to hollowed areas of your face, such as under the eyes and the cheek area
  • Fill grooves and smooth out wrinkles and lines

Is Facial Fat Grafting Right for Me?

Candidates for this procedure should be in good health and have concerns with aging and the loss of fat from their face. There should also be a donor site with excess fat available to remove and purify for transfer to the face.

What Is the Process?

Anesthesia is administered, and then fat is harvested from specific areas of the body, typically the abdominal region or thighs. The fat is put through a filtration process to remove unwanted impurities. The resulting purified fat is strategically injected into the desired locations of the face.

How Long Is the Recovery Period?

Common side effects include bruising, redness, tenderness, and swelling in the incision locations. Prescription medication can relieve discomfort, and cold compresses can be used while you heal. It can take a few days for your symptoms to diminish. Cosmetics can conceal residual bruising, and most patients resume work after one week.

What Results Can I Expect?

Healthy fatty tissue attaches to the blood supply and remains, while the body will naturally reabsorb some of it. The residual transferred fat is long-lasting, producing a fuller complexion and improved contours. Results may vary from patient to patient.
